What You Need to Know About Tire Rotation

Over our many years of experience in the industry, our team has found that many people are aware that tire rotation is important in principle, but don’t fully understand why, so we have put together this article to shed some light on the subject. Keep reading to learn more about what tire rotation is and how it benefits your vehicle.

Why Do You Need a Tire Rotation?

To understand tire rotation, you first need to understand that your tires do not wear out evenly across their entire surface. Your front tires will tend to wear out more along their outside edges, as those are the ones that initiate turns, and your rear tires tend to wear out more in the middle. Tire rotation involves swapping the positions of your tires to let them wear out more evenly.

Benefits of Tire Rotation

As we mentioned above, tire rotation ensures that your tires will wear out more evenly. This is desirable because it will extend the life of your tires and make them last longer. Think of it this way–if you left the front tires in the same spot forever, eventually the edges would wear away completely and make the tire go flat, but by rotating them, you can give the edges a break and let the middle wear away instead.
