Our team at Lindsay Tire Automotive & Accessories wants to help you drive safely, and one way we do that is by providing expert brake services. In this article, we will go over a few ways to tell if you need brake repair—if you notice any of these things happening to your vehicle, we encourage you to bring it in to have our experts take a look.

How to Tell if You Need Brake Repair

• Strange Sounds – One way to tell if you need brake repair is to listen to the sound the brakes make—if your brakes are working properly, they shouldn’t be making sound at all. If your brakes start to emit a squealing or grinding noise as you pump the pedal, you should bring your car in for an inspection.

• Squishy Pedal – Another way to tell if you need brake repair is to pay attention to how the brake pedal feels when you put pressure on it. Ideally, your pedal should feel firm under your foot and put up resistance to your pressure—if that feeling of resistance starts to lessen or the pedal starts to feel “squishy” underfoot, it’s likely that your brakes are leaking fluid and will need to be repaired.

• Steering Problems – A third way to determine whether you need brake repair is to pay attention to your steering wheel while you brake. Often, brake issues will cause the steering wheel to vibrate or to pull to one side while braking. If you notice either issue, you should bring your car into our shop as soon as possible so that our experts can check it out.
