An auto repair is a huge inconvenience and can be very expensive. If you are currently in need of an auto repair and are considering doing the repair yourself to try to save money, you are in the right place. Below, our team of experts here at Lindsay Tire Automotive & Accessories has listed the pros and cons of a do it yourself (DIY) auto repair versus hiring a professional.

Do-it-Yourself (DIY) Auto Repair

Pros: If you are a car enthusiast and are looking for a new challenge, a DIY auto repair can be a great project to tackle. Some people even elect to do this as a hobby, and may purchase a vintage car to fix up themselves. If you already have the tools, this could also save you money.

Cons: If you do not already have the tools and skill set, attempting a DIY auto repair could cost you a lot of time, frustration, and money. Furthermore, you could cause your vehicle more damage by not properly fixing the issue. It is likely that the repair will be very slow, and you will be out of a car for quite some time. The odds are good that you will end up taking it to the repair shop after all when you either can’t fix the problem yourself or it comes back up again in a short period of time.

Professional Auto Repair

Pros: A professional auto repair means that the job will be completed accurately and in a timely manner. Some auto repair shops will even provide you with a loner car through the duration of your repair. This is the best way to save you time and frustration.

Cons: Unless you already own all your own car repair tools and are experienced with auto repair, there really are no downsides to hiring a pro.
